I Took The Plunge

I'll be honest, I never thought photography was something I'd be able to call my job. I mean, I never owned a camera, and only ever used one for maybe a year or so back in high school. Never mind the fact that i had never edited a single photo in my life, besides maybe a filter or two. I was an IPhone photographer, and proud of it. Yet here I was browsing online for a camera, and lighting equipment. I was saving backdrops and creating portfolio sessions in my mind. I was literally jumping in head first, without even getting my feet wet beforehand.

You know when you're thinking about doing something and you get that "sign" that either tells you "go for it" or "no, stop not a good idea"? Well, not even a week after i started looking for a camera,a woman gave me my sign that photography was something I needed to do. One of my followers reached out on Instagram after I expressed my interest in photography. She had a beautiful Nikon she was willing to part with. When I asked her how much she wanted for it, she simply replied with "nothing, I'm just glad to see it go to a good home." I was shocked, and couldn't believe this was actually happening to me. Good things never come my way. When I went to go pick it up, not only was I gifted a beautiful camera, but a bunch of equipment for the camera as well. There's more..!! She also gifted me a paid photoshop program for a whole year! She gave me all the tools I needed to start up and be on the road to success, I just need to put them to use..and that's exactly what I did.

I began taking hundreds of pictures a day. It was a constant rotation between taking pictures and editing. Using different lighting and settings until I got that perfect picture. I would find myself going back to old pictures and changing a few things to something I thought might look better. Between snapping shots of my kids, and just random things around the house and outside i was taking anywhere from four to five hundred pictures a day.

I took a huge leap of faith by getting into photography and honestly I couldn't be more thankful. Photography has helped me find myself again. Being a mom you tend you lose yourself and forget you're somebody other than "mom". Don't ever forget that hard work and dedication go a long way. I can already see a huge improvement in my work over the last month.
